Thank you to all Niall's supporters!

Monday 19th July 20

A big thank you to all the people, who supported Niall's bid in the search for the UK Karate Kid. Thanks to your amazing support, the little buddy has been able to attend the red carpet premiere of the new Karate Kid movie, get a glimpse of the stars and enjoy a wonderful night at a 4 stars hotel with his mum... A treasured memory that he will hold on to for a very long time....priceless!

"Many thanks for sending out all of the messages asking for support during the campaign.  Many thanks to all those, who voted for Niall and helped him enjoy that dream evening. He did incredibly well to get joint third place, despite being too young to have his own facebook account, and I felt incredibly proud accompanying him up the red carpet.
Kind regards

Lucy (Niall's Mum)"

KENAGI celebrates first international success!

Monday 7th June 2010

On Sunday 30th May three members of The Kenagi Academy of Martial Arts travelled to the Excel Centre at the London Docklands to take part in the London International Karate Open. The Open proved extremely successful for the Academy and the trio, Lorna Harty, aged 18, Matthew Schenck, aged 22 and Luke Harty, aged 16, managed to scoop an impressive three medals between them.

Lorna achieved a silver medal in the Female Cadets 15-18 years Kata Event and was only 0.1 of a point off the score of the winner. Luke came away with a silver medal from the Male Cadets 15-18 years Kata Event and a bronze medal from the Mixed All Grade Champions Kata Event.  Matthew narrowly missed out in the placings achieving 4th in his event however he put in strong and solid performance.

What makes their success even more impressive is that the competition was well attended with many athletes coming from countries such as Ireland, Czech Republic, Sweden and Germany.

Sensei Brian Redman who started the Academy commented: “Having never attended an international competition of this scale before and being out of the competition circuit for some time, the Kenagi squad’s success was both a surprise and a well earned reward for all the hard work they have been putting in. Who knows, next time Kenagi could be bringing home the gold.”

TAKE PART IN THE KENAGI CHALLENGE - Karate fees given the chop!

Monday 26th April 2010

The Kenagi academy of Martial Arts is searching for enthusiastic individuals who wish to learn karate from scratch and take part in the 'Kenagi Challenge', which aims to prove that anyone can learn a martial art.

Under the guidance of Sensei Brian Redman four students will spend a year learning karate disciplines for free across a whole range of styles including Wado-Ryu, Shotokan, Shito-Ryu, Jujitsu, Aikido and Kickboxing.

It has been a long held belief by Sensei Redman that learning a martial art is not just for the gifted sportsman but can be taught to everyone - male or female, young or old; he commented:
"ldeally we are looking for a young lad and a young lady who must be over eight and wish to learn the sport with one of their parents or indeed one of their grandparents. The prerequisite is that they must be the sort of people who stick at things and will show commitment to our group."

Sensei Redman continued:
"This is a special opportunity for those who are chosen to learn a discipline that will change their lives forever. The lucky quartet will not be charged any fees for their 12 months of tuition; I 'm just passionate to prove the point that it is a sport that anyone can learn and enjoy, and improve their health at the same time!"

Those that are interested in taking part in the Kenagi Challenge should contact Sally Bason on 01403 783400 or email kenagi@pmwcom.co.uk.

Everyone who applies will be invited to an informal training session at Southwater Leisure Centre where you will have the opportunity to meet Sensei Redman and ask any questions you may have.

Chandlers Building Supplies announce sponsorship of Kenagi

Friday 1st May 2009

Local builders’ merchants, Chandlers, are proud to announce their sponsorship of the Kenagi Academy of Martial Arts. Kenagi is based in Southwater and was started by Sensei Brian Redman. It teaches both children and adults in a variety of Karate styles such as Wado Ryu, Shotokan and Shito Ryu complemented by self-defence and weapons training. The emphasis is on personal development through hard work, dedication and excellence and hundreds of students have passed through its doors since its inception.

Chandlers Building Supplies have branches throughout Sussex and Kent and they have a reputation for getting involved with local sports and activities – they are already involved with the Ringmer Rovers football team, West Chiltington & Thakeham Cricket Club and Ramsgate Youth U16 FC. However this is their first foray into martial arts and they are very excited to be involved!

Richard Skinner is Commercial Manager for Chandlers and while he is very pleased to help Kenagi out as much as possible, he’s keeping tight-lipped as to whether or not he plans to have a go himself. “When I was told about this academy operating in our area I was really impressed aby what they have achieved and what they stand for. But I suspect I’ll be more of an enthusiastic spectator in this case rather than an active participant. I would definitely encourage others to get involved though as the training is second to none and it’s obvious that the members of the academy get so much out of it.”

Local martial arts students get to meet Shaolin Monks!

Saturday 30th may 2009

Members of the Kenagi Academy of Martial Arts, based in Southwater, West Sussex, were left impressed and inspired after meeting the Shaolin Temple Kung Fu Monks when they performed their Shaolin Warriors show at the Pavillion Theatre in Worthing on Saturday 30th May.

Sensei Brian Redman who started the Kenagi Academy was just as enthusiastic as the students:
“When you get into the world of martial arts you quickly learn about the history of the Shaolin Temple. So to get the chance to meet and train with some of the most skilled and dedicated martial artists in the world is really an amazing experience, one which I hope will inspire our students to even greater heights.”

Local firm Chandlers Building Supplies sponsors Kenagi and Commercial Manager Richard Skinner was thrilled that some of the children were going to have such a wonderful opportunity: “When I saw that the Shaolin Monks were coming to Sussex I immediately thought how great it would be for the Kenagi students to see the show, but when I heard it was going to be possible for some of them to actually meet the monks I knew it was a chance we couldn’t pass up.”
